Training standards in hospital posts

by Brad Cheek last modified 19-01-2009 21:26

Deanery expectations of the standard that hospital teaching should be aspiring to

  • All training posts provide a comprehensive Induction Programme for all attached GPStRs at the beginning of their placement.
  • 2 hours of protected time is dedicated to teaching each week.
  •  All GPStRs take part in an Educational needs assessment in the first month of the post. This includes a documented self assessment performed by the GPStR, relating the GP curriculum to the available experiences in that post, followed by an agreed documented contract with their Clinical Supervisor outlining how and where these needs will be met.
  • A flexible teaching schedule which allows the above.
  • A midpoint discussion between a TPD and the GPStR ensures that these standards are met.
  • The annual meeting between a TPD and the Clinical Supervisors allows feedback when problems are identified.
