September 2010 Scheme representatives meeting

by Sylvia Tinning last modified 24-09-2010 11:58

12 noon, Wednesday 8th September 2010

Present: Jo Langmead, Sam Frost, Brad Cheek, Natalie Hawkrigg, Karen Smith, Hannah Kenyon

Matters Arising:

1. Leaving do/welcoming event

Jo was keen that the 3rd years would like a leaving event but it is always difficult to find a suitable date when all can attend.  After some discussion we have agreed on FRIDAY OCTOBER 15th.  This gives us enough time to make specific plans and it was decided this would be a joint event for the 3rd years leaving and to welcome the new intake.  The plan is to choose somewhere in Carlisle with a set menu and hopefully a private room.  HK to investigate and book.

2. GPR choice sessions Autumn term

Karen wanted to highlight that for the Autumn term the second and third year groups both have a GPR choice session.  These are 27th October for second years and 24th November for third years.  It is the responsibility of year groups to organise themselves.

3. 6th October VTS session

Natalie sent out an email regarding this session recently.  The first years and all the TPDs are away at Fellside.   It is a joint session for 2nd and 3rd years with the plan being to discuss AKT/ Mentoring.  Hannah is looking for people interested in helping to plan this session.  Please contact her.

4. Scheme bulletin

Feedback so far was that this was a useful document and accessible.  There was significant work involved in putting it together but it is hoped that this would reduce on the number of individual emails.  It will be continued.   If you have any comments about this please let David know.

5. OOH course

This will be run again in the format of 5 individual days.  It was agreed that this worked well in preference to a one week block.  GPRs said that it was nice to meet up with their group on a weekly basis at the beginning of the scheme and that this helped group bonding.

6. Hospital at Night

This project is ongoing at the Infirmary and now planned to be implemented April 2011.  It is unclear as to how it will work and the impact that this will have on GPR hospital posts.  From August 2011 there will be an additional paediatric SHO post for a GPR.

7. Joint trainer/trainee workshops

There have been a couple of evening workshops in the past where GPRs have been invited.  This has been well received by trainers and there is an idea to run an afternoon workshop at the trainers conference next year at Castle Inn for both GPRs and trainers.   It was agreed this was a good idea.  The proposed theme might be around negotiation skills but if anyone has other suggestions please let Natalie know.

8. Dermatology post

Due to the lack of a substantive consultant there are concerns over whether this can continue to be a training post.   It was agreed that this is a useful post and Brad is looking into how this can be maintained.

9. Borrowdale planning

The current second year group had expressed disappointment at their term review that the Borrowdale event planned for earlier in the Summer had been cancelled due to lack of numbers.  It was agreed that we would discuss this at the first VTS session in October and look at how we can take this forward.

Next meeting: To be arranged: November/ December 2010
