Welcome to East Cumbria GP Training Programme

We have changed our name!  Following consultation with our trainees and the School of Primary Care, the East Cumbria Vocational Training Scheme is no more!  Why?  Well, Vocational Training isn't very catchy and doesn't really describe what we do very accurately, so we have become a GP Training Programme.  We remain in East Cumbria, and everything else, including our office location and contact details remain the same.  Please bear with us whilst we change VTS to GPTP through our website and on our documentation.  In due course our web domain name will also change.

East Cumbria GP Training Programme (ECGPTP)  is an innovative GP training organisation in the north west of England, run by enthusiastic GP training programme directors.

The Programme's main purpose is to provide a postgraduate training programme for doctors who wish to pursue a career in General Practice. We do this under the umbrella of the Northern Deanery Postgraduate School of Primary Care.

We are one of four training programmes in the Northern Deanery - there are also programmes in West Cumbria, Cleveland and Northumbria.

The programme office is in Carlisle, and our training practices are located mainly in North Cumbria, with one practice just over the border in South West Scotland, and one in Northumberland.

The "Programme" part of the website aims to provide you with up to date information about the scheme: its location, the programme personnel, the training practices, the hospital posts and the half day release course. We tell you about some of our newer opportunities such as integrated training posts. There are details about how to apply to the programme and relevant websites.
