About the practice

About the practice
This 5 partner practice serves a mainly urban population of 8400 patients in Carlisle and a short distance outside the City.
Located close to the city centre, the main surgery is a newly built medical centre which we first occupied in March 2006 providing ground and first floor up to date facilities including a minor surgery suite. The centre also includes a pharmacy (provided by United Co-op) and a small suite occupied by Carlisle Carers Association. We also have a small branch surgery in Stanwix, North of the city centre.
The practice is fully computerised including links to the branch surgery (IPS Vision) and we process out of hours contacts, lab results and x-ray reports electronically. Daily incoming mail is all scanned directly onto the patient record.
The practice is cultivating a strong teaching ethos. In addition to training GPs the practice is also involved in teaching final year medical students. The partners’ particular interests include diabetes, minor surgery, women’s health, sexual health and contraception, and child health. In addition, one partner undertakes GPwSI clinics providing vasectomies and minor surgery. Our Practice Nurses each have special interests in chronic disease management and run clinics in diabetes, asthma, COPD and IHD.
Trust staff attend at the practice and offer our patients access to counselling services, a dietician, a diabetic chiropodist and a drug and alcohol counsellor. In addition, the practice hosts a stoma care outreach clinic run by the Stoma Nurse Specialists from the hospital.
Out of hours is provided by CHOC, the local out of hours cooperative, and some of the partners continue to work shifts there.
