Carlisle is the Border City, which provides facilities and opportunities for every possible leisure pursuit and is steeped in Roman history. It also provides all the facilities of a modern City. To the south of the City is English Lakeland, one of the most beautiful areas of England. Skiddaw`s peak is only twenty miles from Carlisle Cathedral and the Lake District National Park lies less than ten miles away from Carlisle. There is ready access to the motorway network via the M6.
To the north is Hadrian`s Wall and beyond the Scottish Border country. To the east is the Eden Valley linking the Yorkshire Dales to Cumbria. West of Carlisle is the Solway Firth and on the Scottish side is the Galloway coast.
The area provides exceptional outdoor facilities for many activities including fell-walking, climbing, pony trekking, sailing and ski-ing.
